A Saiga Antilope Safari

Saiga (Saiga tatarica) were once quite common throughout the central Kazakh semi-deserts and steppes. After extensive hunting for its horns and meat, their population fell from about 1 Million animals to a few thousand in the 1990s. As a result of this, an effort was made by the government and other NGOs to preserve this flagship species for future generations. The wild Saiga population in central Kazakhstan has now recovered in number, to over 40,000.

The tour we are offering is an exclusive and limited offer. The Saiga antelope is continuously moving over the vast grasslands and is best observed in winter during the rut; and in early summer when they have their young. In order to avoid disturbing the animals, the group will be accompanied by rangers moving with the herds. These rangers, also patrol the steppes in order to protect the Saiga from poachers. In addition the visitors will have the opportunity to see the Saiga rangers at work, tracking the animals in the steppes and semi-deserts.
