Day 1

Arrival to Karaganda. Accommodation in the hotel. Breakfast. Walking and bus tour around Karaganda – the biggest city of Central Kazakhstan – and excursion to the museum of Local Lore. Lunch. Excursion to the Ecological and archaeological museums, which form the first impression of the forthcoming journey. Free time. Dinner.

 

 

 

Day 2

Day travel distance: 
50 km

Breakfast. Beginning of the cycling part of the tour: journey from Karaganda to Topar village (about 50 km, 5 hours). Lunch. Rest at Sherubai-Nura water reservoir. Dinner. Overnight stop in tents on shore.

Day 3

Day travel distance: 
100 km

Breakfast. Journey to the neighbourhood of Karamurun village (40 km, 4 hours). Lunch. Journey from Karamurun to the Bugyly mountains (60 km, 5 hours), famous for their pristine nature and absence of traces of people’s activity. Dinner. Overnight stop in tents.

Day 6

Day travel distance: 
60 km

Breakfast. Whole-day journey from Aksu-Ayuly necropolis to the border of Shet and Aktogai districts (about 60 km). Visiting Aksu-Ayulu village on the way, excursion to the museum of Local Lore in the village. Lunch on a half-way. Dinner and overnight stop in tents.

Day 7

Day travel distance: 
55 km

Breakfast. Whole-day journey to the camp on the bank of the Tokyrau - the cleanest river of Central Kazakhstan (about 55 km). Lunch on half-way. Dinner and overnight stop in tents on the bank of the Tokyrau, not far from Aktogai.

Day 8

Day travel distance: 
45 km

Breakfast. Journey to Aktogai village (5 km, 30 min.), visiting the museum. Journey from Aktogai to Shabanbai Bi village (40 km, 4 hours). Accommodation in the guest house, lunch. Visiting a workshop, where felt articles are produced, free time. Dinner.

 

Day 9

Day travel distance: 
36 km

Breakfast. Whole-day bike trip to the Begazy sepulchers – the most famous and monumental archeological discovery on the territory of Central Kazakhstan, belonging to the Begazy-Dandybai culture of Bronze Age (36 km there and back). Visiting the stone statues of the Turkic period (so-called balbals) on the way. Lunch in Akshkol village near the necropolis, short walking tour around neighboring mountains. Way back to Shabanbai Bi, dinner, overnight stop in the guest house.

 

Day 10

Day travel distance: 
40 km

Breakfast. Journey from Shabanbay Bi to the foot of Aksoran peak near Shaban winter hut (40 km, 5 hours). Accommodation in tents, lunch and dinner in the field. Free time. 

Day 11

Day travel distance: 
0 km

Breakfast. Ascent to Aksoran Peak (3 hours, about 600 m ascent) – the highest point of Sary-Arka – 1565 m above see level (the visibility from the top of the mountain reaches 120 km). Lunch at the top of the mountain. Descending to the camp (2 hours), free time, dinner in the field, overnight stop in tents.

Day 13

Day travel distance: 
80 km

Breakfast. Bike trip from Akkora to Kasym Amanzholov village (about 35 km, 4 hours). Accommodation in the guest house, lunch. Half-day excursion to the Kent palace (buddhist temple) – architectural monument of Kazakh-Jungar Wars period (XVII-XVIII centuries) – and Kent settlement - the biggest ancient settlement of Bronze age on the territory of Central Kazakhstan, considered «protocity» by many scientists (there and back – about 45 km). Way back to the village. Dinner.

Day 14

Day travel distance: 
50 km

Breakfast. Journey to the town of Karkaralinsk, founded in 1824 as a Cossack village (50 km, 5 hours). Accommodation in the guest-house. Lunch. City-tour (sights of the periods of Russian Empire and Civil war), free time. Dinner and overnight stop in the guest house.

 

Day 15

Day travel distance: 
0 km

Breakfast. Pedestrian excursion to the Devil’s Lake – the most legendary place of the Karkaraly mountains – and view point Medved (half a day, about 350 m ascent). Lunch in the mountains. Way back to Karkaralinsk. Dinner. Overnight stop in the guest house.

Day 16

Day travel distance: 
100 km

Breakfast. Whole-day journey from Karkaralinsk to the Nura riverside near Ushtau village (about 100 km). Visiting wild animals’ enclosure and nature museum, situated in the conservation area of the Karkaralinsk National park. You may observe here bisons, deer, yaks, wild boars and fallow-deer. Lunch on the way. Dinner and overnight stop on the bank of the Nura – the biggest river of Central Kazakhstan.

Day 17

Day travel distance: 
70 km

Breakfast. Whole-day journey to Altyn-tobe deposit (about 70 km). Lunch in the field on the way. Towards evening - excursion to Altyntobe deposit, where the unique mineral ashirit-dioptaz also called copper emerald, is extracted. Dinner and overnight stop in geologists’ camp.

Day 18

Day travel distance: 
90 km

Breakfast. Whole-day trip from Altyntobe to the Nura riverside near Gabiden Mustafin village (about 90 km). Lunch in a cafe in Botakara village on the way. Dinner and overnight stop on the bank of the Nura.

Day 19

Day travel distance: 
50 km

Breakfast. Journey to the Tegiz-zhol archaeological complex through Temirtau town (about 50 km, 4 hours). Lunch. Excursion to the Tegiz-zhol – a settlement of ancient metallurgists with the necropolis located next to it. Dinner and overnight stop in archeologists’ camp.

 

Day 20

Day travel distance: 
50 km

Breakfast. Journey from the Tegiz-zhol to Karaganda city (about 50 km, 4 hours). Accommodation in the hotel for half a day and lunch. Free time in Karaganda, souvenir purchasing. Dinner. Departure from Karaganda.
